TŌ MĀTAU NEI TOHU OUR LOGO
Hinemanuhiri was the grandchild of Kahungunu and Rongomaiwahine and had five children to Pūkaru, the son of Ruapani. Their children were Tamaterangi, Mākoro, Hingāngā, Pupuni and Pareroa. The children were known as Te Tokorima a Hinemanuhiri - the five of Hinemanuhiri. The hapū of Hinemanuhiri thrived independently as well as together, drawing on their ancestral ties in times of need.
This kōrero is represented in our logo, designed by Aoterangi Cotter. In his own words:
"The main concept for this piece is unity. Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari he toa takitini. Ngā Tamariki: Tamaterangi, Makoro, Hingaanga, Pupuni and Pareroa.
The tamariki are depicted as manaia figures wrapped around their mother. Hapaitia te ara tika pumau ai te rangatiratanga mo ngā uri whakaheke.
Hinemanuhiri: The centre piece is a moko kauae, a symbol of high status. Tū mai ra Hinemanuhiri hei pou kapura mo te iwi e kuia Rangatira.
NgāTokorima a Hinemanuhiri: Together they represent unity and it signifies the triumphs that can be achieved together as one. He waka eke noa."
